Check Your Mates - Open the gate
A positive page to remind friends, family and neighbours in small communities to check in with each other
When life throws you one curve ball after another you have to learn how to throw that sucker back and focus on the good and where you want to be. Because if you let these life challenges stay and take up your head space, that is where you will stay.
This is written by our very dear Friend Katie that we sponsored at both Mudgee and AgQuip, she shared our stand, she filled us with positivity and her presence will brighten any day.
If you find yourself falling please talk to Katie or someone else before you hit the wall.
Thinking of all our farmers out there….
“Farmer’s Dry Sky”
The hot, dusty winds are back
I’m watching the Land as it’s starting to crack
The dams are drying fast
I have that eerie feeling again of not knowing
how long this dry spell will last.
The dry has snuck back into my mind I must confess
It’s Leaving me nothing but true heartfelt stress.
The beloved cows are calving, bringing new life
But some of the younger girls are having a bit of strife
You see there is no green, no new grass
Goodness me this dry spell is really a pain in the arse
For their beds it’s dirt and old stubble along with
plenty of rocks and rubble
why can’t it just rain so the girls don’t have any trouble
there’s the ever increasing price of hay
You need to sell a kidney just to pay
The diesel on top that
Wipes you out leaving your bank account flat
The lack of work makes it hard,
I’m not sure if we will make it through this longest yard
We have given it our all and tried our very best,
but hell I’m over this constant test.
My mind is a tad weary
And my body a little worn out
I find myself yelling at Mother Nature “ it’s your shout”.
I have to remind myself we’ve done many a season like this
Surely Mother Nature is taking the p***
It’s not something we haven’t all done before
It’s just going to take a little more
To inspire my tired and burnt out brain
And put up with the daily aches and body pain
The wallet is all but dry
Just like the our current farmers dry sky.
It’s easy to fall down in that dark well
When your in the middle of a dry spell
So you gotta dust yourself off and wipe away those tears
And look for the little things that has gotten you through the years.
I know it’s seems impossible at times
With the constant financial stress always on our minds
But don’t be frightened to reach out and give your mate or a service a shout
There’s no shame in asking for assistance
It may be the one thing that helps you keep going the distance.
There are a few natural signs of better times to come
We may be a little down, but we are not done.
The trees have new growth, the ants are on the march
The echidnas are wondering and the cactus are flowering on the arch
These little signs of hope, tend to say that rain is on its way
I’m looking forward to tomorrow as it’s a brand new day “Let’s make it count” I say
We know what we have to look forward too
And have learned along the way.
I know no one ever see’s what you have sacrificed to live this life.
But mate honestly if you weren’t here
This country would be in strife.
I’m here to say I’m so proud of you
And my dear FARMERS please remember
Our country and people need YOU.
You’ve got this
